Some good, more bad.

You sit in your apartment, see the things around you, then the light gets dimmer and dimmer, you see less and less until there’s nothing left: that’s depression.”
Mental illness is omnipresent in our society, and yet the specific symptoms are mysterious and difficult to grasp for many people. Using various media formats, the long-term photographic project “Some good, more bad.” makes it possible to better understand the illness of depression – through images and words. The photographer and project initiator Nora Klein spent a year and a half in a trusting exchange with affected people. Through intensive discussions, she succeeded in finding her own visual form of expression for the emotional world of depressed people, beyond words. With sensitive portraits and abstract imagery, she makes an invisible illness visible. Her photos are haunting insights into the inner worlds of depression and are supplemented by interview transcripts of the project participants.
The photo book and exhibition were published by Hatje Cantz Verlag in 2017.
Since 2018, the project has been complemented by a series of lectures across Germany. Photographer Nora Klein and project participant Sabine Fröhlich are on the road with a visual presentation to make an invisible disease visible. www.malgutmehrschlecht.de
